plastic-head ed

nitro sez:

honestly, ed's a helpless, hopeless addict. does you wants the bitey put on anything plastic, anything crinkly, anything crunchy? he's yer man, er, cat. munchmunchmunchmunchmunch.he'll chew until his jaws get tired or until you take it away from him. if there were cellophane gum, he'd be savin' his allowance to buy it. newspapers are great, too. he sits next to the chest in the picture for minutes at a time, just chompin' on that paper with his eyes closed. She says he musta been a train conductor in another life.

and here's the absolute proof of the puddin' (*hah* i'm witty today! i'm so witty, i'm so witty, i feel pretty, and witty, and bright . . .)*ow! Mom!! criminy! ok, ok, i'll get back on track right now!* . notice the totally absorbed, blissed-out look on his face:

are any of the rest of you afflicted with this odd compulsion? is it vile and to be shunned, or a legitimate hobby to be embraced (as long as you don't swallow any of the chewee)? any insights into the behavior? our cousin charlie fluffytail was a wool sucker, but then again, he was a balinese, an' he pretty much couldn't help it. (we don't mean anything detrimental against balineezers--She told us that a breeder told her lotsa meezers is furry fond of lanolin, and that's what's in wool.)

Heh heh heh. We love Ed. I'm not a plastic chewer myself - I'm quite interested in plastic bags but my mum is afraid I will swallow something bad or suffocate myself so she takes them away. But my mum used to have a woofie who had a compulsion for putting fringes on the edges of books or newspapers. He didn't chew them all up, just did a dainty little fringe effect.

Oh, dear. I love to chew stuff like that, but Mum or Dad usually catches me before I can swallow it. However there was a very embarassing incident involving Christmas icicles- I ate some and Dad had to extract them from a place one doesn't associate with holiday decorations. The beans hardly decorate any more because of this, and other incidents.

Whoa! Good one Ed! I don't chew stuff myself, but I admire your extraordinary efforts. Midnight doesn't chew, but she has an absolute passion for licking shirts. Not skin, pants, jackets, or anything else - just shirts. Cocoa likes to just put the bitey on stuff. He doesn't chew, he just bites the edges of stuff enough to get his little fang marks on there. He says it's his siggy-chure.

Scooby is a plastic bag chewer. Just plastic bags like you get at the grocery store or Target. Not other kinds of plastic or crinkly stuff like Ed. Seems pretty harmless Ed., you go for it, but don't swallow. (That's like that saying "don't inhale" ) Shaggy

The Two B's (Bubbles and Mrs. B) does not chew plastic. However sometimes Mrs.B starts licking a specific spot on her body untill it is bald. Weird.

I love to chew plastic bags and other plastic-y things, but they are usually taken away from me as soon as Mom or Dad notices. I don't want to eat it, just chew on it, and sometimes I just lick a plastic bag, too. Mom says that Smokey (One Who Came Before) also liked to chew on crinkly plastic stuff, but not bags.
